Our Story – Irish Gin from the Ring of Kerry

About

Kerry Spirits & OUR STORY

Kerry Spirits and the founder

Kerry Spirits was created with a clear purpose to produce quality premium spirits. Spirits Crafted for a Kingdom. The business was founded by Matthew Murphy, a Glencar native whose work as a landscape photographer shaped the vision behind the brand. Years spent capturing the mountains, coastline, light, and natural detail of Kerry built a deep understanding of the place that would guide every decision in creating the gin.

Before turning to spirits, Matthew spent years working in the tech industry. When the pandemic arrived, he shifted his creative focus from photography to gin. What started as tasting, collecting, and reviewing spirits grew into a focused ambition to capture the character of the Kingdom in a bottle. That idea became Kerry Spirits and led to the creation of The Ring of Kerry Gin.

Kerry Spirits follows a simple approach. Use quality ingredients, rely on traditional methods, and let the identity of Kerry shape the flavour. This approach led to The Ring of Kerry Gin, distilled with seventeen botanicals including four native botanicals hand foraged along the Ring of Kerry. Each batch is produced in small quantities to maintain clarity of flavour and authenticity.

The influence of Kerry is present in every detail. The outline of the MacGillycuddy Reeks appears in the label design. The botanicals reflect the colours and scents found across the Ring of Kerry The brand identity, the bottle design, the flavour profile, the photography, and the website were all created by Matthew to keep the story consistent with the landscape that inspired it.

In 2025, The Ring of Kerry Gin received Gold at Blas na hEireann in recognition of its quality, a result that saw it recognised among Irelands best gins.

Kerry Spirits continues to work from the idea that started it. Spirits Crafted for a Kingdom is not a slogan. It is the standard held in every bottle created.
